Qianmiao Xu as an animator and illustrator, enthusiastic to experiment difference techniques and playful creating process, her art works characterized by its innocence and abstract visual, child-friendly theme.
Artist/Director Statement:
Same Shirts is a animation music video of experimental music Same Shirt by Estonian experimental recorder Man Rei. In this experimental animation, I aim to explore tiredness and struggle emotion, to visualizing deep quiet, exhaustion illusion, combine with old film roll sense, which are hazy and messy.
The distinctive style of the animation, characterized by the quick flipped vibrant colour in dark, and texture, with some noisy point made by pencil filled, it matches to sound feeling, to create a quiet but noisy sensory experience. It showed my adaptability as animator meanwhile reflected my curiosity and fascinated of push boundaries of traditional animation.
Sustainability:
In the creation of my animated film, I considered material implication of environment. I scan the texture of scarp paper and animated whole animation digitally, therefore, no waste of paper during creating process. Also, for the scene with “film roll” texture, I use celluloid which made by myself and use gouache drawing on it, it washable and recyclable.
